Jim Whitesides

Profile Updated: July 26, 2010
Jim Whitesides
Residence: Barnhart, MO USA
Spouse/Partner: Karen
Children: Nicholas - born 1999. Perhaps the most genuinely nice and polite person I know. Handsome too. In total, More…I'm not entirely certain that he's mine. Mothers of his female classmates openly lobby us on behalf of their daughters. Big surprise: he's freakishly tall.

Alex - born 2001. Unfortunately for Alex, he is his Dad's spittin' image - same look, same personality, and (surpise!) freakishly tall. He's the smartest one in the family - too smart for his own good at times. Very competitive, perpetual wise-ass.

Sarah - born 2003. "Hello, NASA? No need to keep looking for the center of the universe - I know right where she is." She had me with her first breath - she brightens any room she enters. Recently voted "Most Likely to Cause A Major International Military Action Between Competing Male Suitors."
Occupation: Finder of new challenges. Now a Self Storage owner

Military Service: Navy

Oooooh. I'll have to fill this in later - never have been a fan of talking about myself.

Favorite
school story:

Well, I suffer from a worsening case of CRS (Can't Remember ****) so I may have to add to this one too. Many good stories, however. Freshman year (yeah, I know, that was technically Anderson HS) we won a basketball tournament and had a VERY memorable party courtesy of Greg Guenther's Dad (our host). Sophomore year was our first year at the new school - which was a serendipitous (www.thesaurus.com) split because ALL the cute girls came to Turpin instead of Anderson. Junior year was, I believe, the year that the soccer guys introduced me to Ultimate Frisbee - those guys were, and still are, a very bad influence. Had a bit of a problem at Prom that year, though. Still haven't forgiven Bob Dames. Senior year - loads of good stories that went along with our growing freedom. One of my personal faves involves my dear Mom (who some may recall was a teacher at the Middle School): the Senior Skip Day Canoe/Beerfest was a very poorly kept secret, and Mrs Quinlan scheduled an important test in Calculus that day she insisted could not be made up. What to do? My Mom told me that I'd always regret it if I didn't go - I went and had a fabulous time. Thanks, Mom.

Would you ever like to live in Cincinnati again?

Sure, if circumstances make it possible

What's been your favorite place to visit/vacation?

I've been blessed in many ways, one of which is that I've been able to travel quite a bit. That said, if I had to pick one place it would be in the back yard, 85 and sunny, in the pool with the family, steaks on the grill, and bourbon in hand. Ahhhhh......

What are your hobbies and/or passions?

Being a Career Gypsy has more or less been a passion - I've re-invented myself a number of ways and a number of times. Not that I haven't been comfortable in my own skin - quite the opposite. I just love new challenges.

More conventionally, it is known that I am easily corruptible for a round of golf, I have a weakness for old cars (and one more empty space in the garage), and for the last couple of years I've been losing quite a bit of sleep honing my guitar skills after the family goes to sleep. Luckily I have a "ManCave" far away from the sleepers (special side note: the letters in "ManCave" can be rearranged to spell "beer fridge", "lava lamp", "I'm never moving again", "No dear, I don't know how many guitars I actually NEED", and "The door locks from the inside").
